Premium African Soup Thickener
Africa’s Finest Whole Ogbono (Wild Mango) 70g offers an authentic ingredient used widely in West African kitchens to create rich, hearty soups. Derived from the seeds of the African wild mango fruit—commonly referred to as bush mango—Ogbono is particularly cherished for its thickening ability, earthy flavour, and numerous health benefits.
These whole seeds, when ground into a fine powder, are the base of the popular Nigerian Ogbono soup, which is enjoyed across Nigeria’s major ethnic groups such as the Igbo, Yoruba, and Edo, each with their own preparation style. When simmered in palm oil and combined with meats, dried fish, crayfish, and leafy vegetables like bitter leaf or spinach, Ogbono soup delivers a luxurious, mucilaginous (slippery) texture that’s loved throughout the region. The dish is typically served with fufu varieties like pounded yam, eba (gari), or amala.

Global and Regional Popularity
Ogbono seeds are a staple not only in Nigeria but also in Cameroon, Ghana, and parts of the Central African Republic. In Cameroon, it is called Dika nut and is used to prepare “Draw Soup”, often with okra and garden eggs. In Ghana, it is referred to as Abesebuo and sometimes combined with kontomire (cocoyam leaves) for a rich soup.
The English name for Ogbono is wild mango seed, and it should not be confused with regular mango varieties. Its high fat and protein content make it ideal for both energy-rich and ketogenic African meals.
